RECORD: Messi sets new goals record for FC Barcelona

FOOTBALL - By scoring his 12th career hat-trick in La Liga and the seventh in this season, Lionel Messi raised his career club total in official matches to 234 and past the previous record of 232 by César Rodríguez. And that is not all. It was stat-o-rama at the Camp Nou tonight.

> He also equalled a personal single season scoring record in La Liga. He had also netted 34 times in 2009/2010 season.
> Messi surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo as La Liga’s 2011/2012 top scorer. Ronaldo is on 32 goals.
> Messi completed the set. By netting against Granada he has now scored against all 19 current La Liga opponents.
> Messi has scored in 98 different La Liga matches. From those 98 in which he scores, Barça have won 89, drawn eight and lost one (4-3 against Atlético Madrid in 2009).
> The hat-trick was needed, since Granada became the first visitors to Camp Nou to score more than twice since Villarreal forced a 3-3 draw on 10 May 2009.
> Apart from the hat-trick, Messi also assisted on the 1-0 by Xavi. Messi has provided the assist on two of Xavi’s 10 La Liga goals this season. And we found this hard to believe at first, but Xavi has assisted on NONE of Messi’s 34 goals this season.

At 27, Alexander The Great overlooked his empire and wept bitter tears because there were no more worlds left to conquer. Lionel Messi is only 24.
