REVIEW: Dortmund win 8th league title and surpass rivals Schalke
FOOTBALL - On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund won the league title in Germany. This is Dortmund’s eighth league title and have surpassed rivals Schalke 04 on third place of most German championships.
- Only Bayern München (22) and 1. FC Nürhnberg (9) have more German crowns.
- This is Dortmund’s fifth Bundesliga title, equalling Borussia Mönchengladbach on second most. Only Bayern München have more (21).
- The last time a Bundesliga team successfully defended their title – Bayern in 2005/2006.
- Since 1993/1994, there have been only two teams with multiple Bundesliga titles – Bayern (10) and Dortmund (5).
- Jürgen Klopp becomes the first coach since Felix Magath in 2006 to win his second Bundesliga title.
- Klopp becomes the fifth coach to win back-to-back Bundesliga titles with a team not called Bayern München. The last one was Ottmar Hitzfeld with Dortmund in 1995 and 1996. Other coaches who achieved this feat: Udo Lattek with Borussia Mönchengladbach (1976, 1977), Ernst Happel with Hamburger SV (1982, 1983) and Hennes Weisweiler with Borussia Mönchengladbach (1970, 1971).
- Klopp promoted with FSV Mainz to the Bundesliga in 2004.
