FOOTBALL - Pep Guardiola has decided to leave FC Barcelona after the season, marking the end of FC Barcelona’s most successful era. Under Pep’s tenure the club won no fewer than 13 trophies out of a possible 18.But most of all he gave the world a Beautiful Game.
After taking over from the highly successful Frank Rijkaard in 2008, few people would have thought Pep Guardiola was to re-write Barcelona’s history.
Already in his first season and a half, Pep steered the club with his groundbreaking philosophy of possession football to an incredible 6 trophies in his first season, most notable La Liga, the Champions League and the Club WCh.
A year later the club stranded in the semifinals of the Champions League, but Barcelona did win La Liga for the second year in a row.
They also won the the Spanish league in 2011 and added another Champions League and a Club WCh to their trophy cabinet in the same year.
But then in the sspace of one week, things took a wrong turn for Barcelona as they lost to Chelsea in the Champions League and suffered defeat Real Madrid in El Clasico, thus virtually handing over the La Liga title to their rivals.
His assistant Tito Vilanova will take over next season, hopefully continuing the style of attacking football that let players like Messi, Xavi and Iniesta and many others shine.
