REVIEW - Greece v Russia 1-0
FOOTBALL - Below the review of the Euro 2012 match between Greece and Russia.
Greece 1-0 Russia
> Greece reached the quarterfinals of Euro 2012 by defeating Russia and finishing second in the group behind Czech Republic. Greece now advance to the 22 June quarterfinal in Gdansk where they will meet the winners of Group B.
> At the European Championship, Greece have done only one of two things: win the trophy or finish bottom in their group.
> Russia crashed out despite winning their opener 4-1. Four years ago, also led by a Dutch coach (Guus Hiddink), they started out with a 4-1 defeat, but recovered to reach the semifinals.
> Giorgios Karagounis made his 120th international appearance tonight, equalling the Greek national team record by Theodoros Zagorakis. Both players featured in Greece’s victorious Euro 2004 campaign. Karagounis made his international debut on 20 August 1999 in a 3-0 win against El Salvador.
> Karagounis scored in his milestone match and put Greece in the lead for the first time at Euro 2012. The only teams that have not led at any point in this tournament are Republic of Ireland and Netherlands.
> Karagounis became the second Greek player to score in more than one European Championship. He joins countryman Angelos Charisteas in that respect.
> Karagounis also picked up his eighth career yellow card at the Euros, extending his competition record. No other player has ever collected more than five bookings in this competition.
> Karagounis and teammate Jose Holebas picked up their second yellow card, meaning that they will be suspended for their quarterfinal match.
> Aleksandr Anyukov’s ninth appearance in a European Championship match, saw him set a record by a Russian, surpassing Aleksey Mikhaylichenko (most ECh matches for Soviet Union/CIS/Russia).
> Roman Pavlyuchenko made his 50th international appearance. He has come on as a substitute in all three of Russia’s matches at Euro 2012.
> Russia finished Group A as the only team with a positive goal differential
