INFOGRAPHIC: Olympic progression at the 200m

ATHLETICS - Americans Michael Johnson and Tommie Smith were ahead of their time with their winning races in the men’s 200m sprint. Tommie Smith was about 0.4 seconds faster than one would expect in that time. Michael Johnson about 0.5 seconds. Robert Kerr took the longest to win the gold, in 1908 it took him 22.6 seconds, compared to Usain Bolt’s world record, Kerr still had to run over 30 metres when Bolt crossed the line.
