PREVIEW: Chemos can equal Diamond League wins record
ATHLETICS - After missing the podium in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the 2012 Olympic Games, Kenya’s Milcah Chemos can secure a consolation prize by equalling the most wins in Diamond League competition at the DN Galan meet in Stockholm on Friday.
> Since the inception of the Diamond League in 2010, Chemos has racked up 12 wins, one behind leader Allyson Felix (USA), who will be absent in Stockholm.
> Chemos already owns the single-discipline wins record in Diamond League competition, since all of her 12 victories have come in the 3000m steeplechase. Felix has six wins over 200m, six over 400m and one in the 100m in her Diamond League career.
> The DN Galan race will be the 20th women’s 3000m steeplechase event to be held in Diamond League history. Aside from Chemos and her 12 victories, no other woman has won this event more than twice on the Diamond League circuit.
> Chemos has won all three Diamond League races she has entered this season, on three different continents. She triumphed in Shanghai, Eugene (Oregon, USA) and Oslo in a three-week period in May and June.
> Chemos finished a disappointing fourth in the 3000m steeplechase at London 2012. All three women who finished ahead of her, including gold medallist Yuliya Zaripova (RUS), are also participating in Stockholm.
