PREVIEW: Bundesliga Matchday 7

FOOTBALL – The following are some key facts and figures on a selected assortment of matches in the Bundesliga this weekend. The matches we have looked into are Bayern München - Hoffenheim, Schalke 04 - VfL Wolfsburg and Hannover 96 - Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern München - Hoffenheim

Last season, Bayern beat Hoffenheim 7-1. It was one of Bayern’s three seven-goal victories of 2011/2012. The other two were against SC Freiburg (7-0) and FC Basel (7-0).

Bayern are the only side with a perfect record after six matchrounds. Bayern won the first six matches of a Bundesliga season for the fifth time in team history, and for the first time since 2005/2006.

Bayern can equal the Bundesliga record for most matches won at the start of a season. The three record holders are Bayern (1995/1996), 1. FC Kaiserslautern (2001/2002) and FSV Mainz 05 (2010/2011). This opening streak didn’t bring those teams a Bundesliga championship. Borussia Dortmund walked away with it on all three occasions.

Schalke 04 - VfL Wolfsburg

With a win against Wolfsburg, Schalke could equal their fourth-best start in the Bundesliga with 14 points after seven matches, and the best since 2000/2001 (also 14). Their three better seasons were recorded in the 1970s.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored his 40th Bundesliga goal last week, during the 2-2 draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf (his 62nd BL match). Huntelaar has now as many goals as his Bayern München compatriot Arjen Robben, who has played 65 matches.

Wolfsburg have found the net in only two of their first six matches, and they never scored more than one goal. With two goals, they have the weakest attack of all Bundesliga teams (together with FC Augsburg and Greuther Fürth). In their Bundesliga history, they have always scored at least four after seven.

Hannover 96 - Borussia Dortmund

This match features the two teams with the most different goalscorers this season. After six match rounds, nine Dortmund players and eight Hannover players have scored at least once. Hannover have benefited from an own goal as well.

> Hannover’s Szabolcs Huszti is the Bundesliga’s most valuable player after six match rounds with 10 points (three goals, seven assists in five matches). Huszti has been involved in nine of Hannover’s last 10 Bundesliga goals.

Dortmund are seven points out of the lead, but the run of history still fancies them to become champions. Bayern München could become the fourth team in Bundesliga history with 21 points after seven matchrounds. The previous three seasons in which these records were set, Dortmund ended up as the champions.
