PREVIEW: Premier League Matchday 7

FOOTBALL – The following are some key facts and figures on a selected assortment of matches in the Premier League this weekend. The matches we have looked into are West Ham United - Arsenal, Liverpool - Stoke City and Newcastle United - Manchester United.

West Ham United - Arsenal

> The Hammers have won both of their PL London derby matches this season – already equalling their most derby wins in a single season for each of their last three seasons in the division. The last time they won more than two was their three derby victories in 2006-07.

Arsenal have won more PL London derbies (93) than any other team. Chelsea have won 92. They have lost three of their last four PL derby away matches including the last two. They last lost three in a row from October to December 2010.

Arsene Wenger is one short of his milestone 350th PL win as Arsenal manager. Only Sir Alex Ferguson (504) has won more PL matches as a manager in the division.

Liverpool - Stoke City

Stoke have failed to win in their last 27 league visits to Anfield, failing to score in each of the last six. Their last victory was 4-3 in March 1959 in the second tier. Their last goal came in the 5-1 defeat in March 1983.

> Liverpool have failed to win in their opening three PL home matches of the season for the first time since 1963. If they fail to win today it will equal their longest ever run without a home top flight win from the start of the season – level with both 1894 and 1911. In 1894, that streak was ended by a 2-0 home win against Stoke City.

Luis Suarez scored his first ever goal for Liverpool against Stoke – in their 2-0 home win in February 2011. In total, he has four goals in four matches against them in all competitions. The only PL club he has netted more goals against in England is Norwich (6).

Newcastle United - Manchester United

Newcastle have not won consecutive home league matches against Manchester United since 1987.

Alan Pardew has yet to lose a PL match against Manchester United since he became Newcastle manager (1 win, 2 draws). Before that he had lost all three of his PL matches as manager against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, with Charlton and West Ham.

Wayne Rooney has scored 10 PL goals against Newcastle, his equal-most against another PL team alongside Aston Villa, Arsenal and Portsmouth. The only players to have scored more goals against Newcastle in the PL era are Michael Owen (13) and Andy Cole (11).
