PREVIEW: La Liga Matchday 8
FOOTBALL – The following are some key facts and figures on a selected assortment of matches in the La Liga this weekend. The matches we have looked into are Deportivo La Coruña - FC Barcelona and Real Madrid - Celta de Vigo.
Deportivo La Coruña - FC Barcelona
> Barcelona are 1 goal shy of scoring their 180th against Deportivo in La Liga (both home and away).
> Together with Athletic Bilbao and Rayo Vallecano, Deportivo have the worst defence this season (14 goals against). The last time Deportivo conceded more than 14 goals after 7 match rounds was in 1968/69: 16.
> FC Barcelona have 19 points from their first 7 matches. This is equal to their best start of the season ever. Barcelona did so 8 times before, the last time being in 2009/10. Of those 8 times, Barça went on to claim the La Liga title 5 times. Only in 1972/73 (Atlético Madrid), 1955/56 and 1929/30 (Atletic Bilbao) Barça failed to do so. Real Madrid have never won La Liga in a season in which Barcelona had 19 points after 7 matches.
Real Madrid - Celta de Vigo
> Real Madrid have scored exactly 200 times against Celta in La Liga (home and away). Celta have netted 125 times against Real.
> Only on 4 previous occasions did Real have 11 points after 7 matches. On none of these occasions Real managed to win the championship.
>Celta have not drawn in 19 consecutive La Liga matches. Only twice before did they set a longer streak, the last time being between December 1947 and October 1948 when they didn’t play a draw in 22 matches. That is also the club record for Celta.
