PREVIEW: Bundesliga Matchday 14

FOOTBALL - The following are some key facts and figures on a selected assortment of matches in the Bundesliga this midweek. The matches we have looked into are Hamburger SV - Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund - Fortuna Düsseldorf and SC Freiburg - Bayern München.

Hamburger SV - Schalke 04 (Tuesday 27 November, 20:00 CET)

> Last season, Schalke managed to beat Hamburg both at home and away. This had not happened since the 1970/1971 season.

> Hamburg have scored only 12 goals in their 13 Bundesliga matches this season. Only 1. FC Nürnberg, Greuther Fürth (10 each) and FC Augsburg (nine) scored fewer.

> The only Schalke player who scored more than once in the last six Bundesliga matches is midfielder Roman Neustädter (two goals).

Borussia Dortmund - Fortuna Düsseldorf (Tuesday 27 November, 20:00 CET)

> The last Bundesliga match between these teams was in 1996/1997. Since then, these teams met each other once – Dortmund won 5-4 after penalties in a DFB-Pokal round-of-16 tie at Düsseldorf.

> Goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller is the only Dortmund player with 13 complete matches this season.

> This win was also Düsseldorf’s first home victory in the Bundesliga since April, 1997, when they beat that other Hamburg team, FC St. Pauli, 2-0.

SC Freiburg - Bayern München (Wednesday 28 November, 20:00 CET)

Freiburg enjoyed their finest moment against Bayern during a 5-1 win in August, 1994. Back then, it was Bayern’s biggest loss since 1978. Since that day, no team has claimed a bigger win over Bayern in the Bundesliga (Schalke 04 in 2002 and VfL Wolfsburg in 2009 also won 5-1 against the record champions).

> Freiburg sit in sixth position on the ladder. This equals their best rank ever after 13 matches (1994/1995, 2010/2011). Last season, Freiburg were 17th at this point.

Of all teams in the five big European leagues (ENG, ESP, GER, ITA, FRA), Bayern have scored the second-most league goals (38) this season, behind only FC Barcelona (43). Bayern have kept the most clean sheets of all European big league teams (nine).
