ON THIS DAY - 1997: Tiger wins US Masters at 21

GOLF - On this day, precisely 15 years ago, Tiger Woods won his first of 14 career Majors. The scene: Augusta National. The occasion: the 61st US Masters. Woods roared through the tournament, becoming the youngest player to be presented with the Green Jacket, a mark that stands until this very day. Woods won the 1997 US Masters by a staggering 12 strokes difference, even though he had turned pro only eight months earlier.

BIRTHDAY - 13 April: Carles Puyol (Football)

FOOTBALL - Carles Puyol is 34 years old today. He was groomed by FC Barcelona’s youth academy and made his first team debut in 1998/1999. Then coach Louis van Gaal inquired: “Son, would you not consider cutting your hair?”. Carles never did and became an icon and a leader. At present, he is the undisputed captain of FC Barcelona’s much heralded side. He also won Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup with Spain.
