Pau GasolBASKETBALL - Pau Gasol is 32 years old today. He has played for Barcelona, Memphis Grizzlies and currently for the Los Angeles Lakers. Gasol is a 12-year veteran and won the European Player of the Year seven times. With the LA Lakers he has won two NBA titles. With the Spanish national team he has triumphed twice in the EuroBasket (2009 and 2011) and helped them to become FIBA World Champions in 2006.

BIRTHDAY - 22 June: Pete Maravich (Basketball)

BASKETBALL - If Pete Maravich were still alive he would be 65 years old today. Maravich, the son of Serbian immigrants enjoyed a spectacular collegiate career. He averaged 44.2 points for LSU and totalled 3,667 points as a collegiate, which is still a NCAA record. He also enjoyed a respectable NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Jazz and Boston Celtics. He died suddenly and unexpectedly at age 40.

BASKETBALL - The Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics 4-3 in their Eastern Conference Final showdown to reach the NBA Finals for the second year in a row. Last season, they lost the Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. On 10 previous occasions, a team won the NBA Championship after finishing runners-up the year before.

MILESTONE: Spurs reel off 20th win in a row

BASKETBALL - The San Antonio Spurs improved to 2-0 in their Western Conference Finals series with the Oklahoma Thunder. The Spurs are now a perfect 10-0 in the playoffs and since they also won their last 10 games in the regular season they have now become the fourth team in NBA history to record a victory streak of 20 matches or longer.  The Spurs have not been defeated since April 11th (vs Lakers).
