REVIEW: Van Persie’s third stoppage time strike

FOOTBALL - Since his arrival at Manchester United last summer, Robin van Persie has not only scored heavily, but has also proved a key difference maker in the closing seconds of the game. His stoppage time strike averted FA Cup elimination against West Ham United. FOOTBALL - Norman Whiteside is 47 years old today. He began his career at Manchester United. He was the youngest player to take part in a World Cup, the youngest player to score in a League Cup and FA Cup final. His career was ended by a knee injury at the age of 26 but not before he won FA Cups in 1983 and 1985. He also played the FA Youth Cup final in 1982, the 1983 League Cup final, and the FA Charity Shield in 1983 and 1985.

FOOTBALL - Fabrice Muamba has been reported to be in stable condition after collapsing on the pitch during Bolton Wanderers’ Saturday FA Cup encounter against Tottenham Hotspur. ON THIS DAY - 1934: Maine Road hosts record crowd

Maine road aerial image.jpgFOOTBALL - On 3 March, 1934, Maine Road, Manchester City’s former ground, was packed with a record 84,659 spectators to watch the Citizens play a FA Cup tie against Stoke City. This remains -to this day- the largest attendance for a match played at an English club ground. Maine Road was nicknamed “The Wembley Of The North” until it was closed in 2003.
