FOOTBALL - On Tuesday, Manchester United won 4-0 at Wigan Athletic to break the record for biggest EPL away win on New Year’s Day. The previous record was 0-3. Arsenal won by this scoreline at Wimbledon in 1994 and at Birmingham City in 2011. Blackburn Rovers won 3-0 at Wigan on 1 January 2007.
FOOTBALL - Ryan Giggs made his 130th Champions League appearance on Tuesday. He came from the bench to replace Javier Hernandez in Manchester’s 3-2 home win against Sporting Braga. Only Raúl (142) has made more appearances in the competition.
FOOTBALL - Ryan Giggs has been selected to Great Britain’s men’s Olympic football squad, enabling the Welshman to become the oldest outfielder in the history of men’s Olympic football and the second oldest overall. Giggs will thereby break an Olympic record that has stood for 88 years.
