FOOTBALL - In a clash of team captains and international superstars, Cristiano Ronaldo made it advantage Portugal. His goal was his 44th for the Portuguese national team, leaving him three shy of the team record of 47 by Pauleta. His main adversary, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Sweden were kept at bay (1-0), as the teams head for Solna for the return leg.

FOOTBALL - FC Barcelona join Arsenal (10 and running) and Real Madrid (16-running) as the only clubs to reach the CL KO stages in 10+ seasons in a row. From the 15 times that FC Barcelona advanced from the (first) group phase, they have done so with at least one matchday to spare on 12 occasions. They secured progress six times on Matchday 4, six times on Matchday 5 and three times on Matchday 6.
FOOTBALL - Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 14th CL goal in 2013, setting a new record for most CL goals in a calendar year. He was tied with Lionel Messi and himself on 13 goals they scored in 2012. He has now scored eight goals after four CL matchdays, equalling Filippo Inzaghi’s record, who had eight goals after four matches in 2002/03.
FOOTBALL - Man City recorded their biggest ever Premier League win (previous best was 6-0 home v Portsmouth in Sept 2008) and equalled their biggest ever top flight win (also won 7-0 in Div 1 home v Burnley in Dec 1968 & v Bolton in March 1936). Norwich recorded their worst ever top flight defeat – their previous worst had been a six goal losing margin, which previously occurred three times in top flight history.
FOOTBALL - Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic became only the fifth goalkeeper to score a Premier League goal and the first to do so in the first half of a match. Regardless of position, his goal was the joint-fourth fastest goal in Premier League history.
FOOTBALL - Chelsea defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the 4th Round in the Capital One Cup. This was Chelsea’s fourth win at the Emirates, surpassing the number of wins Aston Villa and Manchester United have at that ground. Only Arsenal (139) and the Brazilian National Team (5) have had more wins in official matches at the stadium which opened in the 2006/07 season.
FOOTBALL - FC Barcelona’s 2-1 Clásico win over Real Madrid raised their points tally this season to 28 out of a possible 30. This equaled the best track record in a La Liga campaign after 10 matches, previously also achieved by Real Madrid in 1968/69, 1991/92 and by FC Barcelona in 2012/13.
FOOTBALL - Hannover 96’s Mame Biram Diouf picked up yellow cards in the 10th and 12th minute of his side’s Bundesliga encounter with Hoffenheim on Saturday. His was the fastest ever Bundesliga dismissal resulting from two yellow cards, breaking the record of 14 minutes set by Andreas Thom on behalf of Hertha BSC on 5 May 1999.

FOOTBALL - Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his first Champions League hat-trick. Ibrahimovic became the third Swedish player to score at least four goals in one European match, alongside Tore Cervin (4) for Malmö FF on 3 October 1973 (Cup Winners Cup) and Ove Ohlsson (5) for IFK Göteborg) on 23 September 1959 (Champions Cup). Ibrahimovic became the third player to score four Champions League goals in one match for a French side, after Dado Prso for AS Monaco on 5 November 2003 (8-3 against Deportivo) and Bafetimbi Gomis for Olympique Lyon on 7 December 2011 (1-7 against Dinamo Zagreb).
