REVIEW: Cancellara emulates Magni and Raas in Flanders

CYCLING – Fabian Cancellara wrapped up his second career Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) win on Sunday, following up on his 2010 triumph. Fiorenzo Magni (1949, 1950 and 1951) and Jan Raas (1979 and 1983) are the only other non-Belgian riders to have accomplished that feat. Cancellara won his 5th ‘Monument’ race (MSR,RvV,PR,LBL,GdL), the highest echelon of Classic races.

INFOGRAPHIC: Boonen looking for record 4th win in Vlaanderen

CYCLING – Tom Boonen needs to win the Ronde van Vlaanderen one more time to become the first rider to win this classic four times. The Ronde van Vlaanderen is the only classic of the big-5 (Monument races) that has been won a maximum three times.

Boonen has already won Paris – Roubaix four times and can become the second rider two win at least four races in two Monument classics following Eddy Merckx (7x Milano-Sanremo, 5x LBL).

Big-5 races (Monument races) are:

Milano – Sanremo (MSR)

Ronde van Vlaanderen) (RvV)

Paris – Roubaix (PR)

Liège – Bastogne – Liège (LBL)

Giro di Lombardia (GdL)
