BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo collects third career Ballon d’Or

FOOTBALL –  Cristiano Ronaldo picked up the FIFA Ballon d’Or for 2014, the year for which he was voted the best football player in the world.  Ronaldo had also won the award in 2008 and last year.
He is the fifth player to have won it on at least three occasions and joins Johan Cruijff, Michel Platini and Marco van Basten on three. Only Lionel Messi has won it more often (four times).

BIRTHDAY – 21 June: Michel Platini (Football)

FOOTBALL – Michel Platini is 57 years old today. Today’s UEFA president was the key component of the 1984 France team that won the European Championship, playing in one of the best midfields ever deployed by a national team. Platini played for Nancy, Saint-Etienne and Juventus. He was also coach of the French national team from 1988 to 1992. He has also been the chairman of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee, and vice-president of the French Football Federation.
