FOOTBALL – FC Barcelona defeated Athletic Club in the final of the Copa del Rey on Saturday. After having won La Liga, this domestic double is the sixth in the club’s history. Before today, Barça had shared the mark of five with Athletic Club, their opponents in the final. FC Barcelona move two doubles clear of Real Madrid, who have done the double on four occasions.

TENNIS – Rafael Nadal can become the first player in the Open era to win all Grand Slams at least twice and the third player all time, after Rod Laver and Roy Emerson. FOOTBALL – David Cotterill scored the earliest goal ever as a substitute in a Euro qualifier in Wales’ match against Cyprus. David Cotterill came on the pitch in the sixth minute and scored the opener for Wales in the 13th minute. This was the earliest goal ever by a substitute in a Euro qualifier. The previous record was in the hands of fellow countryman Peter Anthony O’Sullivan who scored in the 20th minute in Wales’ match against Malta on 25 October 1979.

FOOTBALL – Chelsea icon Frank Lampard scored against his former team to hand Manchester City a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
