REVIEW: Man United celebrate 71st win against Arsenal

FOOTBALL: Manchester United beat Arsenal 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, their 71st win against the Gunners in the top flight. See below for more facts on United, Moyes, RVP and the Gunners.

> Man United have only won more top flight matches against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

> Man United win their fifth consecutive PL home match against Arsenal, their best top flight home winning run against them since Feb 1964-Oct 1967 (also 5 matches).

> Arsenal lost their 20th PL match against Man United, the most they have lost to any single opponent. They have lost 15 PL matches against Liverpool.

> Arsenal are winless in their last 10 PL away matches against reigning PL champions, since a 1-0 win at Man United in May 2002 (the result that won them the 2001/02 title).

> Spurs and Arsenal losing today meant that no London club has won in a PL matchround for the first time since matchday 10 of last season (03-05 November 2012). That round also included Man United v Arsenal (2-1).

> Robin van Persie has now scored in the last five PL fixtures between the teams, in two matches for Arsenal and in three matches for Man United.

> Robin van Persie has now scored 19 PL goals in 2013, more than anyone else in this calendar year (Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Christian Benteke all have 18 goals). Van Persie was top PL scorer in 2012 (27) and 2011 (35).

> Ryan Giggs came on for his 36th PL match against Arsenal. He has only played more against Liverpool (38). He also has 36 PL matches v Spurs.

> Patrice Evra became the third French player to make 250 PL appearances for a team after Patrick Vieira (279) and Thierry Henry (258), both for Arsenal.

> Mesut Ozil lost his first PL match in his eighth appearance.

ANALYSE THIS: Knock wood, Van Persie PL leader

FOOTBALL – Robin van Persie has lost the lead in the Premier League goalscoring table, and could still be on top if he did not lead another table: players hitting the woodwork most often in the Premier League this season. The Manchester United striker has connected with post and bar far more often than any other player.

REVIEW: Van Persie’s third stoppage time strike

FOOTBALL – Since his arrival at Manchester United last summer, Robin van Persie has not only scored heavily, but has also proved a key difference maker in the closing seconds of the game. His stoppage time strike averted FA Cup elimination against West Ham United. Previously this season, ‘RvP’ had scored stoppage time winners in Premier League away matches at Southampton and Manchester City.
